With so many registrars to choose from it is difficult to determine which deals are the best.

If you have done your homework you will have already discovered that the initial registration cost is not the only cost you need to consider. The hidden fees make it extremely difficult to choose who to use. We make it very easy – by not having any!

Transfer Out Fees - Our Transfer Out (or Away) fees are £0.00, that’s right, we do not hold you to ransom if you register your domain name with us. You can transfer your domain away at any time.

Beware the Small Print - There is NOTHING in our small print that will enable us to charge, penalise or fine you in any way for the use of your domain name.

WHOIS Record Charges - It is important to keep your WHOIS details up to date. We do not charge for any changes to your WHOIS record nor do we restrict updates to your WHOIS record, you are free to make these changes.

IPSTAG Change Fees - We do not charge any fee to transfer away your UK domain name or for IPSTAG changes. Many registrars make this fee so high it’s easier to stick with them. Check this fee before you register with anyone

Registrar Lock Fees - It is important to lock your non-UK domain but we don’t extort you for it. We give you FULL control over your Domain Locking. You can lock and unlock your domain at will and as required at no cost

Transfer Auth Code Fees - Registrars often quote free transfer outs and then charge you for the AUTH code! You can get your domain auth code from us at any time for free. The transfer away of any domain is at no cost.

Parked Domain Advertising - To make money from domains many registrars place advertisements on your parked domains. We do not place third party advertisements on your parked domain or any other service.

Web Forwarding - You can forward your domain name to any location and change this setting whenever your with. For free. Often registrars will make small annual charges for changes to your web forwarding service.

Name Server Changes - You are free to change your name servers as you wish, no limited, for free.

DNS Management - This is often an additional fee based service to your domain registration. With us, you have FULL control over your domain DNS Management at all times. There are no fees to make any changes. Ever.

If your domain is hosted, this guide is not for you. If your domain name is parked, ie. using name servers ns.microlite1.com and ns2.microlite1.com and you have purchased a POP Mailbox – read on…

Your domain is registered, you’ve got your Webmail login for your Domain POP Mailbox, now you want to get things moving on your iPhone or iPad. Here is an example of a POP Mailbox configured on an iPad3 (Ok, The New iPad). Obviously use your own name, username and password as provided.

First, let’s set up the Incoming Mail Server:

Now let’s setup the SMTP Outgoing Mail Server:

That’s all there is to it. You can use the same setting in other mail clients such Outlook, Entourage etc.

Timeout received during file upload/downloads using Plesk 11

During extended uploads or download you are getting an Internal Server Error, the error_log looks like this:

[Mon Mar 04 08:12:58 2013] [error] [client 19.149.54.29] Premature end of script headers: index.php, referer: http://www.site.co.uk

If you are running PHP as FastCGI you may want to look at the parameters in this file:

# vi /etc/httpd/conf.d/fcgid.conf

FcgidIdleTimeout 30
FcgidProcessLifeTime 30
FcgidMaxProcesses 20
FcgidMaxProcessesPerClass 8
FcgidMinProcessesPerClass 0
FcgidConnectTimeout 30
# FcgidIOTimeout 45
FcgidIOTimeout 240

Usually a tweak of the FcgidIOTimeout resolved the problem.

Don’t forget to restart Apache afterwards.

Why do I have to cancel a service if I no longer require it?

Whether you hold one, a few or very many domain names and web hosting services you will find that from time to time you do not want to renew a particular domain or service. This is perfectly natural and our policy is never to charge you for a service that you do not require.

However, you do have to tell us which services you no longer require otherwise we will send reminders and raise invoices based on the assumption that you still require the service.

We make cancellation of services as easy as possible – just a few clicks. There is a slight difference between a domain name cancellation and a web hosting cancellation request, so we will detail both procedures below.

How do I cancel a Domain Name?

Cancelling the renewal reminders for a domain name is easy and takes just a few clicks.

Login to the Client Management Portal

Select Domains -> My Domains

Find the appropriate domain in the list

Select Manage Domain -> Auto Renewal Status

Click “Disable Auto Renew“

This domain name will now expire at the end of its term without and reminders or invoices being issued. If you subsequently change your mind, you can simply “Enable Auto Renew” and you will receive reminders as normal.

We never Auto Renew a domain name, you still have to pay the invoice for us to renew it. So think of this as an enablement or cancellation of the renewal notices.

How do I cancel a Web Hosting account (or any other service)?

Cancelling the renewal reminders for web hosting or any other services is easy and takes just a few clicks.

Login to the Client Management Portal

Select Services -> My Services

Find the appropriate service in the list

Select View Service -> Request Cancellation

Select whether the cancellation is Immediate or at End of Billing Period

If there are any domain names associated with this service confirm if you want to cancel them also

Click “Request Cancellation”

This service will now be cancelled as requested and no future renewal reminders or invoices will be issued.

We never Auto Renew a service. You still have to pay the invoice for us to renew it. So think of this as an enablement or cancellation of the renewal notices. There is no refund available for any unused period.

I have been invoiced for a service I no longer require!

Hey! Don’t worry! These are busy times and it is easy to forget to cancel a service.

Login to the Client Management Portal

Cancel your domain names and/or unwanted web hosting (or other) services.

We will automatically cancel any invoices existing for these services within a few days. Simply ignore any reminders for these services whilst our system disables the services and cancels the invoices.

If you are still worried about the Invoice simply log a Billing support ticket and advise you have cancelled the service and request for the invoice to be cancelled – don’t forget to give the invoice number

Re: Black Monday 25th Feb 2013

We are very sorry with regards to the invoicing issue we have experienced today.

We have today launched a new Billing System which straight off sent out several thousand invoices for domains that are no longer required by their owners!

Our traditional domain renewal method is to assume the domain is no longer required 28 days after expiry. The new system today sent out invoices going back up to 90 days after expiry of UK domains as in fact these domains are still renewable up to this time.

We have already cancelled all invoices ranging from 499903 to 500127 and so no further reminders will be sent for these domains.

We are very sorry for this mishap today and hope it did not cause too much distress.

Kind Regards,

Billing Team @ UK Cheapest

PS. We promise it will be worth it once we’ve ironed out the issues!

How to get CGI working on Plesk 11

Running CGi and Perl scripts is not as straightforward as PHP, so in order to get your CGI working, ensure to confirm the following steps. Once the file in in the correct location, and the file system permissions are correct you will be good to go.

1) Ensure Perl-CGI is installed on the server. If you host with us, this is already done for you.

# yum install perl-CGI

2) Ensure Perl/CGI is enabled for your domain name in your Plesk panel. Find the domain name in the Plesk panel and look at the ‘Website Sripting and Security’ section.

3) Create a file named ‘hello.cgi’ with the following contents:

#!/usr/bin/perl
print("Content-type: text/plain\n");
print("\n");
print("Hello World!\n");

4) Ensure your file is uploaded to /cgi-bin and not /httpdocs/cgi-bin

5) Ensure your file permissions on the file are 755, you can set this in your FTP application or File Manager

6) You can now execute the file as such: http://www.mydomain.co.uk/cgi-bin/hello.cgi

Hello World!

If you have made a change to only a single domain configuration (in vhosts.conf for instance) you need to rebuild the configuration but for speed and performance there is no need to rebuild the configuration for all domains.

At the command line issue the following:

# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-domain domain.com

Within 15 to 30 seconds your domain configuration will be updated.

How to Get More Clicks for Your Tweets

It doesn’t matter how great the article is that you are promoting, if you do not engage your followers then they will never click through to your site.

You only get 140 characters to make an impression on your followers so getting the headline right is real the secret to success on Twitter.

It’s All About The Headline

Once your tweet is broadcast you have the tiniest slice of time to grab attention before it scrolls off and into ‘never to be seen again’ territory as will happen with most tweets that pass every minute.

Headlines have always been important in publishing, headlines sell newspapers, headlines bring traffic to your site. It’s all about using tricks in the headline, and there are some great tricks, so let’s look at what headlines work.

1. The ‘How to’ tweet

This is one of the easiest ones to use because it habitually starts with the words ‘How to’. So for example if your followers are interested in driving traffic to their site using Twitter then this headline would work on you – in fact you are here now so that is proof enough! Everyone is looking for better, more efficient ways to do things and ‘How to’ guides offer just that:

How to Pull Traffic Using Twitter

How to Eliminate Spam Emails For Ever

How to Fly To Australia for Peanuts

The ‘How to’ tweet is the easiest to use and is a guaranteed attention grabber, keep it short, sweet and useful.

2. The ‘question’ tweet

If you ask a question you’ll immediately get your followers to consider an answer and at this point you have already engaged their attention. That is half of the battle won, now complete the question with something interesting and you get your click. Sounds easy? It is! Just be imaginative.

Remember, you are asking a question that ignites curiosity, they simply must, absolutely, need to know the answer!

3. The ‘direct offer’ tweet

Here there is no messing around, you are getting straight to the point. No tricks. no seduction, just a direct message that will appeal to your followers. All of your followers that are interested in your tweet subject will feel compelled to read more. Using the word ‘Free’ is a real puller.

Save 30% On All Orders – Today Only

Free Forex eBook for All of My Followers

Daily Special – 20% Off Everything Today

If your offer is truly appetising, who can resist it? It’s all about getting that click and your content will do the rest.

4. The ‘forbidden knowledge’ tweet

In this tweet you are promising to reveal information that your reader doesn’t know if he or she knows. This raises the curiosity of your follower, engages their attention. They will be asking themselves, “Do I know the secrets?, Let’s look just in case… (Click)”. I bet that if you are interested in Forex, you are wondering yourself what those secrets might be?!

Grab attention using headline keywords such as ‘secrets’ and ‘revealed’ to convert tweets to clicks.

5. The ‘call to action’ tweet

Here you are commanding, even demanding that your reader takes action. This is a direct message which requires immediate action, a call to action tweet. This is especially powerful when your followers can relate to the command. If your followers were all WordPress users then this would be a hugely successful headline.

Upgrade To Google Chrome 10 Today

Install Windows 8 Service Pack 3 Immediately!

Be careful when commanding your followers by ensuring your follow through content will be of great benefit.

6. The ‘news’ tweet

Everyone likes to stay up to date with the latest news in the industry (whatever industry you’re involved) so mega important news releases can be used to drive traffic to your site. Rather than re-tweeting to your followers breaking news, write your own article on the news item and draw your followers to your own site.

Apple iPhone 6 Release Ahead of Schedule

Gold Prices Reach $2,500 Per Ounce

Great Barrier Reef is Disappearing Faster Than Expected

Why give away the traffic? You can provide links to the major releases from your own content later.

7. The ‘numbers’ tweet

The numbers headline is one of my favourites. From the outset your follower will know that this is a potentially great article that can be read in bite sized chunks. Some of which may be new and some may be already known, regardless, this indicates an ‘easy to read’ article that is bound to have some tricks that your follower has missed.

7 Tips and Tricks When Using Siri

8 Business Ideas You Should Be Using

Your followers won’t want to miss out and will be sure to visit your article to fill any gaps in their knowledge.

What grabs your attention? Learn by example

There are many methods to being successful on Twitter and there are many variations of the headline. Be creative, use your imagination. Make a note of works works on you. Which tweets work on you? Look to see how each tweet that grabs your attention is formed. Look and learn.

All we are doing is trying to get the attentions of your followers. Anything you can say that will make them pause and think, just for a moment, is enough to engage the, and if the headline is relevant then they will follow up your offer. This is where you must keep up your part of the bargain.

The material you offer must match up to your headline, give your followers what they seek and you will find they will gladly share your article with their own followers who will then become your followers. Ultimately, great content is the secret to all online success.

Lifecycle Policy:

A major version is defined as any change in the first number of the version number. For example, Plesk 9 and Plesk 10 are different major versions whereas Plesk 10.2 and 10.3 are not different major versions.

Parallels will always provide software patches and accept technical support requests for the latest Parallels Plesk Panel major version and the immediately preceding major version.

Each major version will be fully supported for at least a period of four (4) years after release.

Extended Support: After this 4 year period, the product will no longer be available for new purchases and will continue to receive patches only for critical issues. This will last for a period of six (6) months.

End-of-Life: Once the Extended Support period is over, the product will no longer receive further development and technical support requests will no longer be accepted.

In order to ensure stable operation, it is required to be on the latest update / patch within a major version. For example, this means the latest 9.5.x version in the Plesk 9 series, the latest 10.4.x in the Plesk 10 series, or the latest 11.0.x in the Plesk 11 series.

Support for a particular instance is also dependent on using a currently supported operating system. This policy is described in the relevant section below.

Even for unsupported instances, Parallels will continue to accept technical support requests that are related to updating to a supported version or environment.

The below tables describe when specific versions of Parallels Plesk Panel will enter the Extended Support phase and when patches / support will no longer be available for them. If affected by one of the below dates, customers are encouraged to upgrade to a supported Parallels Plesk Panel version.

How to Create a Great Website

If you want your business to be a success you must have a website, otherwise you’re missing out on a huge audience.

However any old website won’t do – it must be a usable one. So with that in mind, here are some practical tips to get you started.

1. Don’t delay.

Don’t hang around: buy your domain name now if you haven’t already and put up a holding page to let people know you’re developing the site. Get the basic bones of the site up and running and then develop it as you go along. This way you’ll build an audience right from the very beginning.

2. Focus on appealing to your ideal customers.

Do you know who your customer is? All successful websites are built on this knowledge. Keep it simple and focus on providing them with exactly what they need. Know who you are aiming to connect with before you start building the site so you are heading in the right direction.

3. Invest in a web designer to create your website.

It might be tempting to do everything yourself, but expert designers are experts for a reason. They know how to appeal to your target audience and build the website so it is easy to navigate and use. You’ll also get a much better quality website in a shorter amount of time than it would take you to create one yourself.

4. Minimise your use of images.

Images and graphics do have a place on a website. However they shouldn’t dominate the text, because ultimately people will visit your website for information rather than images. Using too many of them can also lead to a much slower loading website, and that could send some people elsewhere when they want their information quickly.

5. Make sure the site works with all browsers and screen sizes.

If you hire a web designer they’ll do this for you – taking another headache out of your list of things to do. Your site might look great for someone using Firefox but it may not appear properly for someone using another browser. You want it to look its best at all times so people don’t give up and go elsewhere.

6. Make sure you are easy to get in touch with.

A key part of developing your website is to make sure all your contact details are included. It is incredible how many people forget to do this. Make sure the information is easy to access from all parts of the website too. If someone wants to get in touch but can’t find the required information, they’ll go elsewhere.

7. Entice people to come back by letting them know what’s coming in the near future.

This is another good way to pique people’s interest. Perhaps you have a new product or service coming soon. Promote it and get people to come back for a closer look in the near future. Announce a forthcoming blog post or a new web page focusing on a new area of your business for example.

8. Link to and from your website.

You don’t want to link to competitor’s sites, but you can link to sites that provide more information on your work or business. Furthermore it is a good idea to create quality links from other sites back to your own. This can be done through promoting your website as positively and consistently as you can.

9. Submit your website to web directories.

This is one of the best ways to get indexed in the search engines as quickly as you can. While the search engines will find your site eventually, you want them to know where you are without delay. The sooner your site can be found, the sooner you will start getting traffic. Don’t forget to contact web indexers either, to ensure the URL of your website is listed in all the right places.

10. Provide strong navigation and a good linking structure.

Have you ever found yourself on a website and lost track of where you are? If you have you’ll know how important good navigation is. Make sure you provide a good linking structure between pages. Again, this is something a good quality web designer can help you with. Ensure your visitors can always find their way back to the home page or to other parts of the website.

As you can see, there are a number of techniques you can use to make sure your website is strong, easy to navigate and welcoming to your visitors. The better your website is, the more likely it is people will come back and visit again and again.
