MobileMe without www prefix
My MobileMe site does not work without WWW?
If you follow Apple's instructions concerning the connection of your domain name DNS to MobileMe by adding the WWW CNAME record then your domain name will connect such as http://www.yourdomain.co.uk.
However, if you go to your site omitting the www, eg: http://yourdomain.co.uk then this will not bring up your MobileMe website. This is because Apple's official instructions only state that you to connect the www prefix to your MobileMe site. Whilst this is exactly as it should work, you probably would prefer for people to find your site without the www prefix.
This problem is easily resolved by using your UK-Cheapest.co.uk Domain Name web forwarding feature (which is provided free with every domain name) in an 'unmasked' mode as follows:
|
Connect to MobileMe without WWW Prefix
First, you need to login to your Domain Control Panel, this gives you access to the Web Forwarding features.
- Log in to your Domain Control Panel
- Select the domain that you wish to manage, eg 'yourdomain.co.uk'
- Click the 'Manage' button
- Under 'Features' on the right, click 'Web Forwarding'
- Change 'Forwarding Type' to 'Unmasked'
- Now let's forward non-www to the www version of your domain name.
- Enter 'htttp://www.yourdomain.co.uk' into the 'Forward To' box
- Click 'Update'
Now try opening your site in a browser without the 'www' prefix, all should now be working fine!
