When can I register an expired domain name?

So you have found the perfect domain name, determined that the owner no longer requires it (as it has expired), so, how long do you need to wait before you can register it?

The first problem is that once the domain name becomes available, there is no guarantee that you will get there first. So, the best recommended method is to contact the current owner and ask them to transfer the domain to you.

If you cannot do this, then you have to wait for the domain name to be "deleted" thus making it available for re-registration to the general public.

For .UK domain names, deletion takes place from 92 to 99 days after expiry. For non-UK domain names this period varies from 30 to 180 days depending on the registrar. If you really want it, start watching from 30 days onwards.
