Setting up Microsoft Windows Mail
This tutorial will take you through the process of configuring Microsoft Windows Mail using the POP/SMTP servers as provided as part of your web hosting email service. You can also use this tutorial for other POP email clients. If you have not yet created a Mailbox, see Setting up your First Mailbox before using this guide.
- Open Microsoft Windows Mail
- Go to Tools > Accounts > Add
- Select 'Email Account" and hit 'Next'

- Enter your display name eg: John Smith

- Enter your email address eg: john@mydomain.co.uk

- Select "POP3" as email server type
- Place a tick in the "Outgoing server requires authentication"

- Enter your Mailbox name and password (as created in your Hosting Control Panel)

- Place a tick in the "Do not download email at this time" box
- Hit the "Finish" button

- You will be returned to the Mail Accounts list. Select your Mail Account and hit "Properties" button

- Verify your settings on the 'General' tab

- Hit the "Servers" tab
- Verify your settings on the 'Servers' tab

- Hit the "My server requires authentication" > "Settings" button
- Ensure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is selected
- Hit the "Ok" button to close the dialogue box

- Hit the "Advanced" tab
- Change "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" port to 587

- Hit the "Ok" button
- Your Windows Mail set up is complete
Please Note: Your SMTP server address is provided by your ISP (whomever you connect to the Internet through), you may find for security reasons (due to spam) that they will not let you access email through this server. If this is the case then you should contact your ISP and find what SMTP server on their network that they recommend you use.
