Give your products a clear destination with a .shop domain. It can suit an independent maker, an online store or the retail side of an existing business.
Individuals and organisations can register .shop. You do not need an existing store to register a name, subject to the registry’s registration rules. Registry guidance (opens in a new tab)↗
Choose with confidence
Is .shop right for your idea?
Let the address explain the destination
A .shop address can distinguish your store from a separate portfolio, publication or main business website. It works especially well when the brand name remains easy to read alongside the ending. Avoid repeating “shop” unnecessarily in both parts.
Connect the store you want to use
A domain is the address, not the shopping software. To take orders, connect an ecommerce platform or hosting with suitable shop software. Check that the platform supports a custom domain and HTTPS, and allow for its separate charges.
Start small without promising a full store
If you are not ready for online payments, use a simple page to introduce your products and explain how to contact you. The included UKC single-page builder is a starting point; it is not a shopping cart or payment processor.
.shop launched in 2016 with stages for trademark holders and early registrants before general availability on 26 September. GMO Registry presented it as an address for both online and offline shops. The ending makes retail part of the name, while leaving you free to choose how your products are presented and sold.
No. The registration secures the domain for the chosen term. Ecommerce software, payment processing and any hosting or platform fees are separate.
Can I register .shop before my business launches?
Yes. You can register an available standard name and connect your store later. Keep your registration contact information accurate and watch for renewal reminders.
Are all .shop names the standard price?
No. Registries can reserve names or price some names as premium. The prices here are for standard registrations; search and checkout must confirm the specific name and price.
What happens after I find a domain?
Add one or more available names to your basket, then continue to registration. Enter the owner details and review the registration term and total before payment. Availability is provisional until the registrar confirms registration.
Will UKC charge me automatically at renewal?
No. UKC sends renewal reminders and an invoice. You need to pay the invoice to renew; UKC does not automatically charge you. Keep your contact details current so you receive reminders.
