.name domain names

A domain centred on your own identity.

A .name domain is intended for personal identities. It can suit your own name, a name you are commonly known by or a personal creative identity, subject to the registry’s naming requirements.

Who can register?

Personal-name registrations must meet the registry eligibility rules. Your own personal name or a name you are commonly known by can qualify. A generic business keyword is not the intended basis. Registry guidance (opens in a new tab)

Choose with confidence

Is .name right for your idea?

Start with the name people know

A name used consistently across your work can make the website easier to connect with you. If the first choice is unavailable, consider a clear personal-name variation that still meets the registry rules.

Keep the personal site adaptable

An introduction, selected work and a contact route can remain useful as your career changes. Avoid tying the whole address to a job title you may later leave behind.

Know which form you are searching

This page searches a name directly before .name. It does not offer the separate third-level personal-name and email products that you may see described in older registry material.

Questions about .name domains

Can I register a nickname?

The personal-name rules recognise names by which a person is commonly known, including nicknames and pseudonyms. Use a genuine personal identifier that meets those rules.

Is .name intended for a generic shop name?

It is a personal-name space. A shop or business-themed ending is usually a clearer choice for a generic commercial brand.

Does it include an email account?

No. A mailbox service must be arranged and connected separately.

What happens after I find a domain?

Add one or more available names to your basket, then continue to registration. Enter the owner details and review the registration term and total before payment. Availability is provisional until the registrar confirms registration.

Will UKC charge me automatically at renewal?

No. UKC sends renewal reminders and an invoice. You need to pay the invoice to renew; UKC does not automatically charge you. Keep your contact details current so you receive reminders.
