Choose with confidence
A .org domain can give a group a consistent address for updates, resources and membership information. Choose a name that people outside the organisation can understand, rather than an internal abbreviation they may not recognise.
Consider .org for a project with supporters or members in several countries. If your identity is specifically UK-based, compare .org.uk and decide whether the geographic ending helps explain who you serve.
The ending is not a charity badge or a guarantee of credibility. Explain who runs the organisation, provide clear contact details and describe what any donations or membership payments support. A useful, transparent website does the important work.

.org was included in the original domain categories as a place for organisations outside the other categories. IANA records its introduction in 1985. That broad beginning helps explain its range of uses today: a community, association or shared project can use .org without attaching its identity to one country.
