Make a short name easier to share
A .uk address can work well on packaging, social profiles and a personal portfolio. Read the whole address as a single phrase: the shorter ending is useful only if the name itself is clear and memorable.

Choose with confidence
A .uk address can work well on packaging, social profiles and a personal portfolio. Read the whole address as a single phrase: the shorter ending is useful only if the name itself is clear and memorable.
The matching .uk is a separate registration. If it is available and useful to you, it can forward visitors to your existing website. Decide which address will be your main one, then keep links and marketing consistent.
Some people may naturally add .co.uk when recalling a UK business address. If you choose .uk, show the complete address clearly in your email signature and promotional material. You can check and compare both versions without starting a second search.

About this extension
Nominet manages direct .uk registrations alongside .co.uk and other UK endings. The registry keeps the central domain records, while you manage your UKC registration through your account. Nominet: the UK registry (opens in a new tab)
On 10 June 2014, Nominet opened registrations directly under .uk, allowing a name followed simply by .uk. This expanded the existing UK family rather than replacing .co.uk or .org.uk. The launch gave people a shorter way to show a UK connection while retaining the choice of a more descriptive ending.
Background checked 6 September 2026 against the sources linked above.
