A shorter option for the UK
On 10 June 2014, Nominet opened registrations directly under .uk, allowing a name followed simply by .uk. This expanded the existing UK family rather than replacing .co.uk or .org.uk. The launch gave people a shorter way to show a UK connection while retaining the choice of a more descriptive ending.

Questions about .uk domains
Do I need a .co.uk domain before registering .uk?
No. You can search for and register an available .uk domain independently.
Does buying .uk include .co.uk?
No. The two addresses have separate registrations and renewal charges. Choose one or add both if they are available.
Can I use .uk with my existing website?
Yes. Connect it using the DNS or nameserver settings supplied by your website provider, or forward it to an existing address. Confirm that your provider supports a custom domain.
What happens after I find a domain?
Add one or more available names to your basket, then continue to registration. Enter the owner details and review the registration term and total before payment. Availability is provisional until the registrar confirms registration.
Will UKC charge me automatically at renewal?
No. UKC sends renewal reminders and an invoice. You need to pay the invoice to renew; UKC does not automatically charge you. Keep your contact details current so you receive reminders.
