Choose with confidence

Is .co.uk right for your idea?

When .co.uk is a good fit

Choose .co.uk when customers mainly find, contact or buy from you in the UK. It is a natural choice for a tradesperson, consultancy or independent retailer whose domain should match the name on their van, shopfront or business card.

.co.uk or .uk?

Both belong to the UK domain family, but they are separate registrations. .uk makes the address shorter; .co.uk gives it a familiar business shape. Say both versions aloud, then choose the one you would most comfortably give to a customer.

Start with the name customers already know

Try your trading name first. If it is unavailable, a relevant service or location can help distinguish the address. Keep it easy to spell, and check that a similar name is not already being used by another business. You can compare other endings in the same search.

Questions about .co.uk domains

Does a .co.uk registration include the matching .uk?

No. Each is a separate domain with its own registration and renewal. If both are available, you can add both to your basket.

Can a sole trader register a .co.uk domain?

Yes. .co.uk is available to individuals as well as organisations; you do not need a limited-company registration.

Should I use .com instead?

Consider .com if you want an address for a wider international audience. For a business focused on UK customers, compare the clarity and availability of .co.uk before deciding.

What happens after I find a domain?

Add one or more available names to your basket, then continue to registration. Enter the owner details and review the registration term and total before payment. Availability is provisional until the registrar confirms registration.

Will UKC charge me automatically at renewal?

No. UKC sends renewal reminders and an invoice. You need to pay the invoice to renew; UKC does not automatically charge you. Keep your contact details current so you receive reminders.
