Connect a UKC domain to Wix
Choose nameservers for the simplest Wix setup, or use pointing when UKC must continue hosting your DNS
Both methods can connect the website. Nameservers move DNS control to Wix. Pointing keeps DNS at UKC and changes only the records Wix specifies. If your domain already receives email, record every working mail record before making either change.
Which Wix connection method should I use?
| Method | DNS is managed at | Best when |
|---|---|---|
| Wix nameservers | Wix | You want Wix to manage the website connection and are ready to recreate any email or verification records there |
| Pointing | UKC Domain Tools | You want to keep existing UKC DNS, forwarding or email records and add only the Wix values |
How do I connect the domain?
- 1Add the domain in Wix
Choose the option to connect a domain you already own, then select the preferred connection method.
- 2Record the Wix values
Keep the Wix instructions open. Copy the nameservers or pointing records exactly, including each host name.
- 3Update the UKC domain
Open My Domains in the UKC Client Area. Change Nameservers, or open Domain Tools and DNS Manager for pointing records.
- 4Verify in Wix
Return to Wix and run its connection check. DNS caching means the new result may not appear everywhere immediately.
How do I avoid breaking email?
Copy the current zone
Record MX records and mail-related TXT, CNAME and A records before changing nameservers.
Recreate records at Wix
When Wix becomes the DNS host, add the working mail records in Wix before relying on the new delegation.
Use pointing when appropriate
Pointing can leave UKC email records untouched, but only if you edit the specific website records Wix requests.
Test both directions
After the change, send a message to the domain and send a reply out. Website success alone does not prove email is working.
Wix connection questions
Does changing nameservers transfer the domain to Wix?
No. Registration stays with UKC. The nameserver change only delegates DNS hosting.
Can I change back?
Yes. Keep the previous nameservers and DNS records so you can restore the earlier configuration if needed.
Why does Wix still say the domain is not connected?
Check spelling and allow for DNS caches. If the exact Wix values are present but verification continues to fail, compare the live DNS response with the Wix instructions.
Connect carefully
Open My Domains and use the exact Wix values
Preserve email first, update only the intended DNS controls and verify the website and mailbox afterwards.
