What is a DNS A record?
An 'A' record is a DNS record that matches an IP address to your domain name, the record consists of 3 parts: hostname, record type and IP address:
- Hostname: www
- DNS Record type: A
- IP Address: 123.456.78.9
The two A records that are created as default when your domain is registered with us that direct traffic to your site are the www A record that controls which server your domain points to when you access http://www.yourdomain.com and the @ A record which controls which server your domain points to when you access http://yourdomain.com
If your domain name is parked with us you can add custom A records and also modify the existing records. All DNS 'A' record changes are subject to a DNS propagation delay. |
