A parked domain is registered, but not connected to a normal website
Open the domain in a browser first. If it shows a holding page, advertising, a sale notice or a message saying the domain is parked, it is probably parked. Confirm the result by checking its registration status, nameservers and DNS records.
How to check if a domain is parked or active
There is no single public result that always says whether a domain is parked. Use these four checks together. They help distinguish a parked domain from an active website, a redirect, a DNS problem or a name that is available to register.
- 1Open the domain in your browser
Enter the full address, including the domain extension. A branded holding page, sale page or parking message is the clearest sign that the domain is parked.
- 2Check whether it is registered
Use ICANN Lookup for many global domains or Nominet Lookup for .uk domains. A parked domain must normally be registered.
- 3Inspect its nameservers and DNS
Nameservers identify the service controlling the domain. A or CNAME records show where web traffic is sent. Missing or incorrect DNS can produce an error even when the domain is registered.
- 4Check the domain provider account
If you own the domain, your account is the most reliable place to see its nameservers, forwarding, DNS and parking settings.

Parked domain questions
What does “this domain is parked” mean?
It means the domain has been registered but currently shows a temporary or provider-generated page instead of a normal website. The owner may be preparing a site, reserving the name, forwarding it or offering it for sale.
Is a parked domain available to buy?
Not usually. Parking normally means somebody has already registered the domain. Check the registration record before assuming it is available. If the owner offers it for sale, the parking page may provide contact or marketplace information.
Why is my domain parked after I built a website?
The domain may still use parking nameservers or point to an old address. Confirm the nameservers and DNS records supplied by your website or hosting service. Allow time for recent DNS changes to propagate.
Can email work while a domain is parked?
Yes. Website and email traffic use different DNS records. A domain can display a parking page while its MX records deliver email, but both services must be configured correctly.
Does parking protect ownership of my domain?
Your registration protects your right to use the domain for its registration term. The parking page itself does not add ownership protection. Keep the registrant details, renewal settings and payment method current.
How do I remove a parking page?
