A .UK transfer uses a Nominet tag change, while many global domains use an AuthInfo or EPP code and add a registration year. Do not rely on an old fixed price. The current cart shows the extension-specific charge, term and VAT before payment.
How do you check the transfer cost?
Follow the sequence and stop before any step that does not match the service shown in your UKC account.
- 1Identify the extension
A .uk or .co.uk follows the Nominet tag route. A .com, .net and many other extensions follow an EPP transfer process.
- 2Check transfer eligibility
A recent registration, transfer or contact update can create a lock. Confirm the holder email and expiry before ordering.
- 3Open the current UKC transfer cart
Enter the complete domain and review the live charge, VAT and any added registration term.
- 4Complete the matching registry action
Change the .UK tag to MICROLITE, or unlock the global domain and provide its AuthInfo or EPP code.
Why do transfer charges differ?
Each registry defines its own transfer process and wholesale transaction. The current checkout is the reliable price source.
.UK domains
The registrar changes when the IPS tag changes to MICROLITE. Place the UKC order so the domain is associated with the correct account.
Global domains
Many gTLD transfers add one year to the registration and involve a registry transaction charged through the gaining registrar.
Provider administration fees
The losing provider may have its own contractual charge. UKC cannot control another provider’s fees.
Website migration
Moving a site or mailbox is a different service and may have a separate cost, preparation and downtime plan.

Will a transfer renew the domain?
Many global transfers add a year, but rules vary by extension. The current order summary is authoritative.
Is hosting included?
No. A registrar transfer and a website migration are separate tasks.
Can I transfer an expired domain?
Possibly, depending on the extension and lifecycle stage. Ask before paying if the name is expired, suspended or in redemption.
Will email continue?
Normally yes if the nameservers and mail service remain unchanged and active. Record the DNS first.
