Connect an external domain
Yes, a domain can stay with its current registrar and use UKC hosting
Registration and hosting are separate. Order UKC hosting with the existing domain, prepare the website in Plesk, then update the domain’s nameservers or DNS at its current provider using the exact values in the UKC welcome email.
How do you connect an externally registered domain?
Follow the sequence and stop before any step that does not match the service shown in your UKC account.
- 1Order hosting for the existing name
Choose the capacity required and enter the domain exactly. Do not order another registration unless you want a separate name.
- 2Build or migrate the site
Use Plesk, Sitejet, WordPress Toolkit or file and database tools. Test before changing live DNS.
- 3Choose the DNS route
Either use the exact UKC hosting nameservers from the welcome email or keep external DNS and update only the records UKC provides.
- 4Enable SSL and test
After the domain resolves to UKC, issue Let’s Encrypt, test root and www, then verify forms, email and redirects.
Registrar, DNS and hosting have different jobs
Keeping them with different providers is normal, but the account owner must know where each part is managed.
Registrar
Renews the domain and maintains registry details. It can remain with the original company.
DNS provider
Publishes records that direct web, email and verification traffic. It can be the registrar, UKC or another provider.
UKC hosting
Stores the website, databases and hosted mailboxes on the assigned Plesk server.
Website builder
Every current UKC shared hosting plan includes Sitejet, while a registered UKC domain also has its separate Domain Website Builder.
| Decision | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Move all DNS to UKC hosting | Use the assigned hosting nameservers |
| Keep third-party DNS | Copy only the required UKC web records and preserve mail records |
| Move the registration too | Run a separate domain transfer after services are documented |
Common questions
Can UKC host the site before DNS changes?
Yes. Prepare the subscription and content first, then connect the public domain when testing is complete.
Will changing nameservers move my email?
No. It changes which DNS zone is authoritative. Recreate the correct mail records or mail can stop.
Which nameservers do I enter?
Use the exact pair in the hosting welcome email. Do not use generic parking nameservers for Plesk hosting.
Can I transfer the domain later?
Yes, subject to the extension rules. A later registrar transfer need not change the working nameservers.
Keep the domain where it is
Choose UKC hosting and connect it only when the site is ready
Registration can remain elsewhere while Plesk, Sitejet and the website run on UKC hosting.
