Android email setup
Use secure IMAP and authenticated SMTP in the Gmail app or another maintained Android mail client
Use IMAP port 993 with SSL/TLS for incoming mail and SMTP port 587 with STARTTLS for outgoing mail. Custom Domain Email uses webmail.ukc.uk. Shared hosting uses the assigned server such as ukc10.uk through ukc13.uk.
How do you add the mailbox on Android?
Follow the sequence and stop before any step that does not match the service shown in your UKC account.
- 1Confirm the mailbox works in webmail
Sign in through the correct browser webmail first. This confirms the address and password before changing the app.
- 2Add another account
In Gmail or the chosen mail app, add an Other or IMAP account and enter the complete email address.
- 3Enter secure incoming settings
Use IMAP 993 with SSL/TLS, the full email address as username and the supported server for the mailbox service.
- 4Enter authenticated outgoing settings
Use the same supported hostname, SMTP 587 with STARTTLS, and require sign-in with the full email address and mailbox password.
Which server name should you use?
The hostname must match the mailbox service and certificate. Do not replace it with mail.yourdomain unless that exact name is documented and secured.
Custom Domain Email
Use webmail.ukc.uk for incoming and outgoing server settings.
Shared hosting mailbox
Use the assigned Plesk server, such as ukc10.uk, ukc11.uk, ukc12.uk or ukc13.uk.
Incoming security
Choose IMAP 993 with SSL/TLS. POP 995 is available only when there is a specific download-based requirement.
Outgoing security
Choose SMTP 587 with STARTTLS. Port 465 with SSL/TLS is the supported alternative.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Username | Complete email address |
| Incoming | IMAP 993, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing | SMTP 587, STARTTLS, authentication required |
| Password | Password for that mailbox |
Common questions
Why does the app say the certificate does not match?
Stop and replace a guessed hostname with the exact supported UKC server. Do not disable certificate validation.
Why can I receive but not send?
Open the outgoing account and enable SMTP authentication. Confirm port 587 is paired with STARTTLS.
Should I choose POP?
Use IMAP for most customers because folders and message state stay synchronised across devices.
What details should I send support?
Send the Android and app versions, server names, ports, encryption choices and exact error. Never send the mailbox password.
Use the maintained setup guide
Follow the current Gmail for Android steps with secure ports
If webmail works but the app does not, compare each manual setting and capture the exact error.
