Custom domain email explained
A proper domain mailbox lets you send and receive as you@yourdomain.co.uk
Choose a mailbox when you want to send and receive as you@yourdomain.co.uk. Choose forwarding when you only want incoming messages passed to an inbox you already use.
Which email option do I need?
| Option | Receives mail | Sends as your domain | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email Forwarding | Sends incoming messages to another inbox | No | Receiving at your domain without another inbox to manage |
| Custom Domain Email | Stores messages in its own inbox | Yes | One everyday business mailbox |
| Business Email Hosting | Stores messages in several mailboxes | Yes | A business that needs several addresses or email domains |
What you need to set up a domain mailbox
Your registered domain
The domain must remain renewed and connected to the email service. UKC handles this connection when you add Custom Domain Email to a parked UKC domain.
A mailbox and password
Buy and manage Custom Domain Email from the domain control centre. Use the full email address as the username and keep the password private.
The settings below
Copy the server name, port numbers and security choices into your email app. Use your full email address as the username.
Settings to copy into your phone or computer
Use webmail.ukc.uk whenever the app asks for the incoming server or outgoing server. You can also visit that address in a browser to read and send email without setting up an app.
| Service | Server | Port and security |
|---|---|---|
| IMAP incoming | webmail.ukc.uk | 993 with SSL/TLS – recommended |
| SMTP outgoing | webmail.ukc.uk | 587 with STARTTLS – recommended |
| SMTP alternative | webmail.ukc.uk | 465 with implicit TLS |
| POP alternative | webmail.ukc.uk | 995 with SSL/TLS |
Use the complete email address as the username. If the app asks whether the outgoing server requires authentication, choose Yes and use the same email address and password.

Good habits for business email
Keep the domain connected
Do not change email DNS records unless you know why the change is needed. These records tell other mail systems where to deliver messages and help them recognise genuine email from your domain.
Send responsibly
Use accurate sender details, do not buy mailing lists and investigate repeated delivery failures. These habits help protect your domain’s sending reputation.
Use IMAP on your devices
IMAP keeps the same messages and folders on your phone, computer and webmail. Your outgoing mail also needs to sign in with the full email address and password.
Keep important records
Seeing the same email on several devices is not a separate backup. If messages must be kept for business or legal reasons, export or archive them somewhere independent.
Questions about custom domain email
Do I get email just by registering a domain?
A UKC domain includes email forwarding tools. A mailbox that stores and sends messages is a separate email or hosting service unless the selected product says otherwise.
Can I use Outlook, Apple Mail or a phone?
Yes. Use the account’s secure IMAP and SMTP settings. The exact server hostname should match the certificate presented by the service.
Can I keep Gmail as my inbox?
You can forward incoming mail to Gmail. To send as your domain reliably, use a Custom Domain Email mailbox or another proper outgoing-mail service.
