Outgoing email settings
Use the server hostname assigned to your mailbox, with SMTP authentication enabled
For a UKC Custom Domain Email mailbox use webmail.ukc.uk. For shared hosting, use the assigned server such as ukc10.uk, ukc11.uk, ukc12.uk or ukc13.uk. Use port 587 with STARTTLS, or port 465 with implicit SSL/TLS.
How do you enter the outgoing settings?
Sending can fail even when receiving works because the outgoing account has its own server, encryption and authentication controls.
- 1Identify the mailbox service
Use webmail.ukc.uk for Custom Domain Email. Use the exact assigned ukc10.uk to ukc13.uk server for a shared-hosting mailbox.
- 2Choose the port and security together
Use 587 with STARTTLS. If the app requires a connection that begins inside TLS, use 465 with SSL/TLS.
- 3Enable SMTP authentication
Enter the complete email address as username and the password for that mailbox, not the Client Area password.
- 4Test sending and receiving separately
Send a short test to another address, reply to it and confirm the message appears in Sent. Record the exact error if it fails.
Why does outgoing email fail?
Most problems come from a mismatched hostname, port, security mode or authentication setting.
Wrong server name
A guessed mail subdomain may not match the service certificate. Use the documented hostname for the mailbox.
Authentication is off
Enable outgoing authentication even if the app says it is optional. Use the full email address.
Port and encryption do not match
Port 587 uses STARTTLS. Port 465 uses implicit SSL/TLS. Do not combine 587 with an ssl:// style connection.
Network or security software interferes
After checking the exact settings, test another trusted connection and review firewall or antivirus mail inspection.
| Mailbox type | Server | Port and security |
|---|---|---|
| Custom Domain Email | webmail.ukc.uk | 587 STARTTLS or 465 SSL/TLS |
| Shared hosting | Assigned ukc10.uk to ukc13.uk server | 587 STARTTLS or 465 SSL/TLS |
| Authentication | Full email address and mailbox password | Required |
SMTP questions
Can I use port 25?
Port 25 is mainly for server-to-server delivery and is often blocked for customer submission. Use authenticated 587 or 465.
Why does webmail work when my app does not?
The mailbox and password may be correct while the app has a wrong hostname, port, encryption or outgoing authentication setting.
Should I use my broadband provider’s SMTP server?
Normally no. Use the authenticated outgoing service belonging to the mailbox so its identity and delivery controls align.
What should I send support?
Send the app and operating-system versions, server names, ports, security modes and exact error. Never send the password.
Still cannot send?
Compare the outgoing account with the secure settings
Correct the server, port, encryption and authentication first, then bring the exact error to UKC Support.
