WordPress on Plesk Obsidian
Install WordPress through Plesk WordPress Toolkit, then secure it before publishing
WordPress Toolkit is included with UKC shared hosting. It installs WordPress, creates the database and gives you one place to manage updates, security checks, backups and the WordPress login. Decide where the site should appear before you click Install.
Check these four things before installation
Choose the address
Install in the domain root for example.co.uk. Enter a folder only if you deliberately want an address such as example.co.uk/blog.
Protect existing content
If the domain already has files or a database, take a backup first. A new installation can conflict with an existing website.
Confirm the domain
The domain should point to the hosting account. A new site can still be installed before DNS finishes updating, but public testing must wait.
Prepare secure details
Use a unique administrator username, a strong password and an email address you can access for recovery notices.
How do I install WordPress in Plesk?
- 1Open Plesk
Sign in to the UKC Client Area, open the hosting service and choose the Plesk control-panel link.
- 2Open WordPress Toolkit
Select WordPress, choose Install and select the correct domain and installation path.
- 3Review the settings
Set the site title, administrator details, language and update preferences. Keep the generated database details unless you have a specific requirement.
- 4Install and sign in
Complete the installation, then use Log in from the Toolkit card to open the WordPress dashboard.
What should I do immediately afterwards?
| Task | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Enable Let’s Encrypt SSL | Serve the site over HTTPS and redirect visitors to the secure address |
| Run the Toolkit security check | Review recommended WordPress hardening measures and file permissions |
| Configure updates | Keep WordPress core, plugins and themes supported and patched |
| Create a backup | Keep a restore point before adding themes, plugins or substantial content |
| Remove unused items | Delete plugins and themes you do not intend to maintain |
Common WordPress installation questions
Does UKC install WordPress automatically?
WordPress Toolkit provides a guided installation. You choose the domain, location and administrator details before it creates the site.
Can I reinstall over an old site?
Do not overwrite a site you may need. Back it up, confirm the correct document root and remove or migrate old content deliberately.
Can I manage more than one WordPress site?
Yes, within the website and resource limits of your hosting plan. Each installation appears separately in WordPress Toolkit.
Ready to install?
Open your hosting service and launch WordPress Toolkit
Install on the correct domain, then complete the SSL, update, security and backup checklist before launch.
