How Long Does Domain Registration Take?

Domain registration timing

Many domains register within minutes, but availability and activation are not guaranteed instantly

Payment, registry processing, contact validation and DNS caching are separate stages. A completed order can appear in your account before every network sees the new website or email settings.

Four stages to understand

1. Order

The basket and payment must complete successfully.

2. Registry

The relevant domain registry accepts and creates the registration.

3. Validation

Some registrations require contact or eligibility checks.

4. DNS

Nameservers and records must be visible through distributed caches.

Registration is not the same as propagation

Registration establishes the domain at the registry. DNS then connects it to a website, mailbox or forwarding service. Cached DNS answers can continue to show an older result until they expire.

New registration not listed

Check the order status, invoice and My Domains. A pending order may need payment, validation or manual review.

Domain listed but site not visible

Check nameservers and DNS. Try another network and allow time for caches to refresh.

When to ask for help

Contact UKC if the paid order is still pending, the domain is missing from My Domains, a validation message is unclear, or the nameserver configuration shown in the account is not becoming authoritative.

Next step

Check your domain status

Open My Domains to see whether registration is active and which nameservers are assigned.
