Whose job is it to backup my data?

It is your job to backup your data. We provide comprehensive backup tools with all web hosting accounts to enable you to easily backup your data including:

  • emails – all inboxes and folders
  • data – all files and data within your hosting account
  • mysql – all databases on your account
  • files – all files within your webspace

In the even of a server failure we endeavour to restore your data using our own disaster recovery backups. If you lose your own data or your account gets hacked you need to perform a restore from your own backup set.

Who is responsible for backup of my data?

Re: Should I backup my data?

As a hosting service provider we naturally perform regular system backups of our servers in order to protect your data against catastrophic hardware or software failure on our servers.

Whilst these backups are required for our peace of mind, they do not replace your own backups. Our system backups are intended for catastrophic server failures only.

Reasons you should make your own backup:

  • Protect yourself from disgruntled employees
  • So that you can restore in the event your gets hacked
  • So you can restore in the event that you forget to renew your hosting account
  • To protect yourself from site editing errors
  • To protect yourself from malfunctioning CMS upgrades
  • Protect you from changes you make to your site
  • If your data is important, back it up

If the server crashes it’s our problem and we will do our best to use our in-house data and disaster recovery processes minimise and/or eliminate data loss.

If you lose data for any other reason other than server failure you will need your own backups in order to restore your data.

How do I backup and restore my files?

UK-Cheapest Web Hosting regularly makes backup copies of information stored on its servers for disaster recovery purposes.

Nevertheless, availability of backups is not guaranteed and we will not be responsible for loss of customer data.

Customers are advised to make regular backups of the information they store on our servers. The Plesk control panel provides tools that facilitate full data backup and restoration.

It is important to make regular backups of your web site hosting account from using the Backup Manager in Plesk. It is also possible to backup your database separately by using the Webadmin tool under the Databases section of your Plesk control panel.

If you have any problems with backing up / restoring your site in Plesk, please submit a ticket to our HelpDesk.
