I have uploaded files to my webspace but can not view them?

As soon as you upload files to your webspace they are available on the internet, there is no delay in these becoming visible.

The most common reasons that you would not be able to view uploaded files are as below,

What is my ftp username?

If you have hosting with UK-Cheapest then your initial FTP username will be of the following format,

admin*****@yourdomain.com

Replace ***** with your 4 or 5 digit account/order number (not invoice number)

Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name.

Please note you must include your domain name in your username in order to login with ftp.

If you have added a new domain to your account using multi-domain hosting then you would have created your own FTP username and password during the domain setup and you must use these details for this particular domain.

If you have hosting with UK-Cheapest then you FTP upload server address will be of the following format,

server.microlite*.com

Simply replace the * with the server group which your account is hosted upon as advised in your Hosting Initialisation Complete email.

I’ve uploaded my site but the changes are not there

When you upload your site it should be instantly viewable, there is no holding area. If you still see the old pages then you need to clear your browser cache and delete your temporary files.

It can be particularly difficult to do this if you are an AOL user, please review the steps below:

This will involve taking a number of steps to fix the problem so please print this guide to help you resolve this issue.

If you use Internet Explorer, do the following:

1) Load up Internet Explorer
2) Select from the top menu “Tools”
3) Select “Internet Options”
4) Select “General Tab” (default)
5) Select “Settings”
6) Select “every visit to the page”

If that doesn’t work, follow the rest of this article:-

A. Clear the Browser Cache/Temporary Internet Files

Windows 95/98/ME/2000
To clear the Browser Cache simply do the following:
1. Close AOL
2. Click on Start -> Programs -> AOL -> AOL System Information.
3. From the System Information window click on the
Utilities tab and now click on Clear Browser Cache.
4. Close the AOL System Information window

Windows XP
To clear the Browser Cache simply do the following:
1. Close AOL
2. Click on the Start -> All Programs -> AOL -> System Information
3. From the System Information window click on the Utilities tab and now click on Clear Browser Cache.
4. Close the AOL System Information window
B. Are you using Zone Alarm or similar Firewall software?

If you are using or have just installed Firewall software then please disable it and try viewing the web page(s) in question again.

C. Close third party software in the task list and try again.

To close background Windows 95/98/ME
Hold down the Control (CTRL and the ALT key together. Now while holding these press once (and once only) the DELETE key. This will open a window called ‘Close Program’. It is a list of everything presently running on the PC. To close a program you must Highlight it and click on ‘End Task’ at the bottom. This will only close that program so you must continue this process until all that is left running is : AOL
, AOL TRAY , SYSTRAY , EXPLORER Note* Please allow several seconds between each CTRL + ALT + Delete to prevent the computer from restarting.

To Close background programs on Windows 2000
Hold down the Control (CTRL and the ALT key together. Now while holding these press once (and once only) the DELETE key. This will open a window called Windows Security. From here click on the Task Manager button and then click on the Appplications section.Here you will have a list of every application running on your PC.
Click on on an application to highlight it and then click on End Task. Task Manager will stay open so you don’t need to keep pressing CTRL + ALT + Delete. Once the Applications list is blank close the Windows Task Manager by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner.

To close background programs on Windows XP
Hold down the Control (CTRL and the ALT key together. Now while holding these press once (and once only) the DELETE key. You will now see a screen called Windows Task Manager. Click on the Applications
section.Here you will have a list of every application running on your PC. Click on on an application to highlight it and then click on End Task. Task Manager will stay open so you don’t need to keep pressing CTRL + ALT + Delete. Once the Applications list is blank close the Windows Task Manager by clicking on the X in the upper right hand corner.

1. Go to AOL Keyword: Preferences.
2. Click on the Font, Text & Graphics link (AOL 9.0 users click on the L-Q link on the A-Z tab, and then click on the Personal Storage link).
3. Reduce ‘Maximum disk space to use for online art’ box to 35 megabyte(s).
4. Click Save.
5. Exit the AOL software.
6. Double-click on the AOL icon on your desktop and sign on to AOL.
7. Repeat steps 1 – 2.
8. Increase the ‘Maximum disk space to use for online art’ box to 60 megabyte(s).
9. Click OK

Please restart your computer after you have followed the last step.

I’ve uploaded my website but I just get a Linux Test Page message

The Linux Test Page or ‘forbidden’ error message is given when there is no index.html or index.htm file present in a directory.

Make sure that you upload your index file correctly. As soon as you upload your index.htm or index.html file the The Linux Test Page or Forbidden error message will no longer show
