Drive Replacement: MICROLITE2

Scheduled for weekend 25/26 July

We have a degraded storage unit on MICROLITE2 which we have scheduled to replace between 2100 Saturday 25th July and 0900 Sunday 26th July. The server will be offline for periods during this 12 hour window.

Whilst the storage units are hot swappable, the resync will take up to 5 hours to complete. We are scheduling this replacement overnight at the weekend in order to cause minimal disruption.

Thank you for your patience.

The degraded unit has been replaced and the RAID volume is now fully synced. We are pleased to say that the hardware replacement and resync was performed without any downtime to services.

Priority Server Upgrade: MICROLITE12

Scheduled for weekend 25/26 July 2015

We are still not satisfied with the performance of MICROLITE12 and so as a priority we are bringing forward the upgrade of this server to our new UKC Super Server range. We are rolling this new model out across the entire range during the latter half of 2015.

During the weekend 25/26 July, we will be migrating all client data from the current hardware (5.77.60.166) to completely new hardware (5.77.35.132).

There will be no downtime for your web sites or email services. We will switch the new server into production only after it has passed our comprehensive data migration and validation testing.

Notice: Please refrain from making significant changes to your web site during this period. The migration of the data will take many hours. We request that you put off any changes until the upgrade is complete to avoid an inconsistent transfer of your site and data.

Thank you for your patience,

——

UPDATE: Sunday 10:00

The migration of all MICROLITE12 accounts to UKC02 Super Server is complete.

UKC02 has fully “absorbed” MICROLITE12. The new Plesk URL and name servers for MICROLITE12 accounts are:

Plesk Panel: https://ukc02.uk:8443 (replaces https://www.microlite12.com:8443)

Name servers:

  • ns.ukc02.uk (replaces ns.microlite12.com)
  • ns2.ukc02.uk (replaces ns2.microlite12.com)

Please note the following:

  • The old Plesk server name MICROLITE12.COM and old name servers ns.microlite12.com and ns2.microlite12.com will continue to function as normal.
  • There is no urgent need to change all the name servers on your domain names however we recommend using the new name servers for good housekeeping purposes.
  • Using the old MICROLITE12 Plesk URL may give a security error in your browser which you can safely ignore.
  • The server IP address has changed from 5.77.60.166 to 5.77.35.132

We hope you enjoy the enhanced performance and security of your new UKC Super Server!

Problems Sending Mail – Receiving is Fine?

emailOutgoing Emails Blocked by Spamhaus

Error: Cannot send emails: 451 http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=xx.xx.xx.xx

If you cannot send mail, the problem is likely a restriction by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) as many block the normal sendmail port 25, due to their own security concerns.

This can be the case even if sending was working recently as some ISP’s roll these changes through without warning.

Simply changing to port 587 will resolve the problem for you.

Below are our recommended outgoing SMTP settings:

  • Incoming Server: mail.your-domain.com
  • Outgoing Server: mail.your-domain.com
  • Username: Your full e-mail address
  • Password: Your e-mail account password
  • Incoming Port: POP3 110 or IMAP 143
  • Outgoing Mail server (SMTP) Port: 587
  • SSL: NO
  • SMTP Authentication Required: YES
  • Secure Authentication (SPA): NO

If you are unsure how to make the above changes, we recommend reviewing:

Domain Registration: Do I need a Hosting Service?

Choosing the correct Hosting service

DomainNameRegistrationWhen you order a domain name you may also select a hosting service, this is entirely optional and may not even be required. Below, we will explain the three options you have.

  • No Hosting – Without hosting, your domain name will be parked. You will have access to all of our free domain parking features such as DNS Manager, Email forwarding, Web forwarding etc.
  • Email Hosting – This provides a professionally hosted email service. Choose this option if you require email for your domain name but do not plan to host a web site (yet) – or you plan to host your website elsewhere such as as Wix or Weebly. With this service you can connect your domain to any external service and use our Profession Email Hosting to run/manage your email services.
  • Web Hosting – This provides a full Web Hosting service for your domain name. You can host a web site, use website builder, manage email and every other service you might need for your domain. This is the best option if you decide to build your own website, upload an existing website or hire a web designer.

What if I make a mistake?

You can’t make a mistake! If you choose the wrong plan, we can cancel, refund or upgrade to get you on the the right plan at any time later. So don’t worry. If in doubt, choose the smallest plan and upgrade later when (and if) required.
